C-5M Super Galaxy departs Travis with U.S. government assistance to India

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (April 28, 2021) – A U.S. Air Force C-5M Super Galaxy from the 60th Air Mobility Wing departed Travis Air Force Base, California, to transport medical supplies to India amid its surge in COVID-19 cases.

The cargo includes an initial shipment of oxygen cylinders with regulators, N95 masks, and rapid diagnostic kits. The supplies and equipment will be delivered to Indira Gandhi International Airport, near New Delhi. This is the first of several large shipments that will be delivered in the days and weeks ahead.

“U.S. Transportation Command and our air component command, Air Mobility Command, is trained, equipped and ready to provide rapid, tailored responses to requirements such as this,” said U.S. Army Gen. Stephen R. Lyons, commander, USTRANSCOM. “Executing this global reach capability directly facilitates U.S. interagency efforts to rapidly provide India’s frontline healthcare workers with the materials they need.”

USTRANSCOM is prepared to support continued Department of Defense efforts to provide rapid assistance to India through transport of equipment and supplies.

“I couldn't be more proud of the men and women of Air Mobility Command,” said Lyons. “They are once again highlighting their ability to rapidly move critical equipment on behalf of our nation to support our Indian partners.”
