Travis takes command nod for Air Force LeMay trophy
The evaluation team that canvassed the base in early February was impressed by the enthusiasm of Travis people, according to Larry Krauss, AMC deputy director of services, who headed the evaluation team.
Krauss said it was obvious that Travis people enjoyed what they do and are dedicated to the services' mission here.
Maj. Linda Thomas, 60th Services Squadron commander, echoed the evaluators' sentiments. "Our people have worked very hard, pulled together in superb fashion and are most deserving of this award."
During the evaluators' two-day visit, they saw first-hand why the squadron won other AMC and Air Force awards. The squadron claimed title to the 1999 Air Force Outdoor Recreation Services Program Award, 1999 AMC Bowling Center Services Program Award and 1999 AMC Services Civilian Technician Award.
Thomas said the evaluators also saw the long list of facility improvements, successful marketing of events and services, organizational enhancements and renewed customer orientation that the squadron put in place over the past year. Among the most visible were the Year of the Family Around the World in Ninety Days promotion, the Family Fun Day, the new playground for North Gate Park and catered weekend meals during two "Dorm Fests."
"It all came down to the evaluators seeing that our customers are our first and foremost consideration," she said.
She also pointed out that support from other base organizations - 60th Civil Engineer Squadron, 60th Communications Squadron, 60th Transportation Squadron and 60th Air Mobility Wing staff agencies - was crucial to winning the AMC LeMay nomination.
The Air Force evaluation team will visit the base June 3 to 8.
"The 60th Services Squadron looks forward to continuing to support the Travis community in first-class style," she said. (FROM AIR MOBILITY COMMAND PUBLIC AFFAIRS).
