AMC ops director speaks about EAF

MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. (USTCNS) -- Air Mobility Command's role in the Expeditionary Aerospace Force concept was the focus of Maj. Gen. Nick Williams' visit here April 18.

During the spread-the-word briefing at the base theater, the AMC director of operations spoke to more than 450 McGuire members about the successes, challenges and construction of EAF and the
Aerospace Expeditionary Force.

"This is about putting EAF into perspective," said the general. "The bottom line is that this concept brings predictability and stability to Air Force troops and their families around the globe."

He explained most people assigned to an AEF are subject to deploy for one 90-day increment during a 15-month cycle.

"Our goal is to advise troops at least 120 days before they are vulnerable to deploy," said Williams. "I know this isn't the case now, but we're well on our way to making it a reality."

The general said the recent deployment of AEF 5/6 also helped to make progress within EAF.

"Yes, we had a few problems -- but these are lessons learned," Williams said. "By the time the next rotation comes back around, we will be that much more prepared."

Williams said EAF preparation includes educating service members like Staff Sgt. Angie Spink of the 305th Operations Group about the concept.

Spink, who is slated to deploy with AEF 7/8 this August, said the briefing gave her a better understanding of how support units fit into the "big picture" of EAF.

"After hearing the general speak, I finally understand how people are tasked for EAF rotations," she said. "It was a great opportunity to hear about this new way of deploying straight from the top."

Another tool for educating troops is the electronic one-stop shop for AEF deployments, EAF On-Line, at http://aefcenter.acc.af.mil/eafonline.

"People can find out what EAF they're assigned to, training requirements, and more," said Williams.

"This site is definitely a step in the right direction. It won't be long until AEF is in full swing." (FROM AIR MOBILITY COMMAND PUBLIC AFFAIRS).
