Memorial Day 2000

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- On May 29, 2000 we celebrate the first Memorial Day of the new millennium. On this day we should reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and on the sacrifices our great men and women of the armed forces have made to preserve our liberty. Throughout our nation's history, American soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen, and Coast Guardsmen have been willing and ready to support our Constitution in peace and war anywhere in the world.

The courage and valor demonstrated by those who have preceded us continue to inspire us to strive toward the "more perfect Union" our forefathers sought. The men and women of U.S. Transportation Command, and its transportation component commands (Air Mobility Command, Military Sealift Command and Military Traffic Management Command), embody the spirit and dedication that will continue the great traditions of our nation.

Thank you for your service to America. I urge all of you to continue honoring those who gave their lives in defense of our nation. God bless each of you and God bless America.
