SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- A part of Air Force and Air Mobility Command history will be on permanent public display when the Scott Field Heritage Park opens near the Shiloh gate here.
The park has been in the planning stages for several years, said Karen Cordevant, park curator.
"The first step to building the park occurred last week with the scrub down of a C-140 Jet Star in preparation of its restoration," said Cordevant.
Cordevant says the air park will be used to help further public knowledge of Air Force, Scott AFB and AMC history.
The small jet will eventually be joined by a C-141 and a KC-135 on static display as the main features of the park, which will be located across Scott Drive from the Scott Club.
The Scott Field Heritage Park Foundation, a not for profit organization, was created earlier this year by members of the Belle-Scott Committee and will be the sole source of funding for the park.
"We are in the beginning stage of our membership drive and funding program," said foundation member Jean Cummins. "Our first project was printing the programs for the air show. A $1 donation (for the programs) goes to the foundation, and we will have membership applications available also (during the air show)."
Cummins anticipates the project will be completed in two to three years and will cost approximately $300,000.
"We really want it to be a shining star for the area," Cummins said. (FROM AIR MOBILITY COMMAND PUBLIC AFFAIRS).
