SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- An Air Force officer will assume duties as the U.S. Transportation Command director of command, control, communications and computer systems (J6) here in July.
Col. Gilbert R. Hawk, currently commander, Air Force Communications Agency, Scott Air Force Base, Ill., and recently selected for promotion to Brig. Gen., will replace Air Force Brig. Gen. Walter I. Jones.
Jones will become vice commander, Air Force Communications and Information Center; and director, Global Combat Support System - Air Force Requirements Integration, at the Pentagon.
Hawk enlisted in the Air Force in 1969 and served as a computer systems analyst. In 1974, he graduated from Officer Training School.
He has served in a variety of positions in the communications-computer systems field at both major command and Air Staff levels. He also served as a Squadron Officer School faculty member, squadron commander, and military assistant to the director of defense information in the office of the Secretary of Defense.
Hawk holds a master of arts from Webster University. His military education includes the Squadron Officers School, Armed Forces Staff College, Air War College and the National Security Management Course, Syracuse University.
His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (with 1 oak leaf cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (with 4 oak leaf clusters), and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
