USTRANSCOM publishes overview of defense transportation system
The publication, Understanding the Defense Transportation System, (USTRANSCOM Handbook 24-2), was published with a design to ensure a firm understanding of the DTS for USTRANSCOM's customers.
The book "introduces the DTS's customers, identifies strategic transportation assets and capabilities, and outlines future initiatives to enhance the DTS," stated Air Force Gen. Charles T. "Tony" Robertson, commander in chief of USTRANSCOM, and commander, Air Mobility Command in the document's introduction.
Highlighted elements include airlift, sealift and traffic management capabilities; DTS operations; statutory and regulatory guidance; and elements of the Transportation Working Capital Fund.
A section of future initiatives and technologies includes entries on High Speed Sealift; Agile Port; Agile Transportation Advanced Concept and Technology Demonstration (AT 2000); Modeling and Simulation; and Business Decision Support System.
