Leadership, outstanding performance earn Air Force award

FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. (USTCNS) --- A member of Team Fairchild won the Air Force Lt. Gen. Leo Marquez Award for his outstanding accomplishments in logistics and maintenance.

MSgt. Brian Ehrhardt, NCOIC contingency communications, mobile initial communications kit, 92nd Communications Squadron, won in the technician supervisor category.

Squadron officials wrote up Ehrhardt's package and submitted it straight to AMC for evaluation.

"He led communications for the buildup of allied forces at Moron Air Base, Spain, during the Kosovo conflict and accomplished many other tasks to improve communications at Moron. He was referred to as being a 'grade A comm superstar' by Gen. Tony Robertson, commander, AMC," said CMSgt. Michael Nagel, maintenance superintendent, 92nd CS.

Ehrhardt attributes the award mostly to his actions while in Moron. His award write-up highlights his many achievements during his 142 days there.

"Originally the operation was only supposed to be a small tasking, about 12 tankers, so we only took seven people;
however, within a couple of weeks there ended up being 42 aircraft and about 900 people deployed to Moron," Ehrhardt said. "My team provided all communications support for these people. In addition, I was filling a staff role in the 92nd Air expeditionary Wing as senior communicator. In this role I managed three geographically separated units as well."

Ehrhardt also accomplished things like setting up an Internet Cafe to let deployed members keep in contact with their families, according to Nagel.

Along with his many achievements in Moron, Ehrhardt contributed several ideas to standardize AMC MICKs.

"There was a 'lesson learned' meeting towards the end of 1999 that focused on how to make communications better in AMC," Ehrhardt said. "There are 19 MICKs and we all have similar ways of running things, so I gave some ideas on how we could have 19 nearly identical shops."

With all of his achievements, Ehrhardt maintains a good relationship with everyone he works with, according to SSgt. Matt McDougall, MICK team member, 92nd CS.

"He's a great guy to work with," McDougall said. "I respect him because of his experience and ability to know what to do in any situation, and because he gives everyone the same amount of respect that he would want in return."

Ehrhardt's list of accomplishments and superior job performance make him most deserving of this award, according to Nagel.

The Lt. Gen. Leo Marquez Award is given in the categories of field grade officer, company grade officer, supervisor manager, technician supervisor, technician, civilian manager and civilian technician manager for aircraft maintenance, munitions and missile maintenance and communications-electronics. One person from each category is chosen for the award; officials awarded a total of 21 awards. (FROM FAIRCHILD CONNECTION, FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE).
