USTRANSCOM CINC leads delegation on visit to New York Stock Exchange
Air Force Gen. Charles T. "Tony" Robertson, USTRANSCOM commander in chief and commander, Air Mobility Command, led a group of senior officers from USTRANSCOM and AMC on a visit to view the first large scale virtual environment for transportation business applications.
The purpose of the visit was to examine visualization technology that may enhance the management of the defense transportation system.
The NYSE's 3-D Trading Floor consolidates the data streams of NYSE operational activity into one highly advanced, three dimensional graphic visualization system, revolutionizing the way the NYSE monitors and responds to systems and stock-related events.
Robertson received a briefing and demonstration of the 3DTF. The 3DTF is a computer-generated representation of the trading floor that allows events on the trading floor to be seen and understood at a glance.
The 3DTF enables the operations staff to pinpoint complex systems and stock-related activity with visual clarity.
Also during the visit, Robertson met with William R.Johnston, NYSE president and chief operating officer.
As a highlight of the visit, Robertson, with his delegation close behind, pounded the gavel at the exchange podium signaling the closing of the exchange.
Among those accompanying Robertson were Army Lt. Gen. Daniel Brown, deputy commander in chief, USTRANSCOM, Air Force Maj. Gen. John D. Becker, director of operations and logistics, USTRANSCOM, Air Force Maj. Gen. Arthur J. Lichte, director, plans and programs, AMC, Rear Adm. Edward Fahy, director, plans and policy, USTRANSCOM, and Brig. Gen. Gilbert Hawk, director, command, control, communications and computer systems, USTRANSCOM.
