GRAND FORKS, N.D. (USTCNS) --- Gen. Charles T. "Tony" Robertson, commander in chief of U.S. Transportation Command, and commander, Air Mobility Command said Grand Forks Air Force Base has seen many changes since he last visited as the 15th Air Force commander more than two years ago.
"I am so delighted to see all the things that we started two or three years ago come to fruition - such as the gym addition, the squadron operations buildings, the dining facility, the new dormitory and the new housing," Robertson said. "To see all those things that were just ideas just a number of years ago be up and have people living, working and playing in them is great. We need to do more, but we have also come a long way. I appreciate the way it was and I am delighted at the way it is. I'm even more committed, however, to making it better."
Robertson said he "thoroughly enjoyed" his visit to see the Warriors of the North. He said the people here are among the best he's seen at any base.
"The people are magnificent," the general said. "The mission is not easy. With all the commitments this wing has taken on to be a force provider, for combat support, to be a force enabler, and a lead mobility wing - that's a lot for a wing. Not only that you've still got your single integrated operations plans mission and all the other things that you do. I like to see people doing it and smiling and doing it well. This really is a magnificent wing."
Robertson's visit included meeting with squadron and group leadership and honorary commanders, touring a variety of facilities, addressing all the military people assigned to the base in an all-call and presented a Purple Heart to a World War II veteran.
"I have had a huge grin on my face during my whole visit," Robertson said. "I know I put together a good team of leaders up here and my confidence has been justified." (FROM GRANDFORKS AIR FORCE BASE PUBLIC AFFAIRS).
