USTRANSCOM chief of staff nominated for promotion

WASHINGTON (USTCNS) --- Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced in Washington March 1 that the President has nominated U.S. Transportation Command chief of staff, Brig. Gen. Carlos D. "Butch" Pair for appointment to the rank of major general.

The promotion is subject to U.S. Senate confirmation.

Pair, a reserve officer, assumed his current position in June 2000 following duty as the deputy commander for mobilization at Military Traffic Management Command.

Pair has held a variety of command and staff positions including chief of staff, 377th Theater Army Area Command, commander, 3d Theater Movement Control Agency (Anniston, Ala.), commander 696th Maintenance Battalion, and commander 530th Maintenance Company.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (with silver oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with oak leaf cluster), and the Army Achievement Medal.

He is a graduate of the Quartermaster Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.

Pair holds a bachelor's degree from Jacksonville State University.
