FORT EUSTIS, Va. (USTCNS) --- The Military Traffic Management Command's Deployment Support Command helps deploy and sustain America's fighting forces in times of peace or crisis by ensuring military cargo arrives rapidly and safely wherever needed.

DSC's strategy to be fully responsive providing support to its customers is clearly evident by its continuing outreach efforts during its bi-annual freight training workshops.

At a DSC-hosted workshop held recently in Hampton, Va., Navy Capt. Kevin R. Walter, DSC's deputy commander, set the tone for mutual sharing and discussion of ideas, information and concepts that proved beneficial to presenters and attendees alike.

"We at DSC stand ready to provide you with first class customer service for all your transportation needs," said Walter. "We recognize your importance in moving freight through the Defense Transportation System and the commercial industry. We stand ready to share Team DSC's expertise and to hear your issues so we can resolve them with mutually beneficial solutions."

The workshop featured targeted developing exploratory dialogues to improve and create understanding of mutual operating procedures in the movement of DoD freight shipments.

The forum objective provided for an exchange of information, ideas and possible solutions to a range of issues and challenges. The workshop also established a hands-on working opportunity for DSC's functional area managers to interact with their peers and counterparts.

The Department of Defense and other customers can count on DSC's transportation professionals - active and reserve military and Department of the Army civilians, as well as the command's commercial transportation industry partners - to support the warfighter by delivering professional, efficient and timely surface transportation services whenever needed, anytime...anywhere.

"This objective was fully achieved," said Ed Brown assistant deputy chief of staff for continental U.S. (CONUS) Traffic Management. "It was a professional program targeted at all elements within the DoD."

Workshop training sessions have specific emphasis in freight routing, the Carrier Performance Program, customer service outside the CONUS, cargo booking and documentation requirements, transportation discrepancy report preparation, spot bids, Power Track, integrated booking system, surface negotiations, and prepayment audit and cost questions.

"These valuable topics open lines of communications among MTMC and the shippers from military installations nationwide," said Brown. "They provide the opportunity to exchange views and solutions to mutual traffic concerns. Updated information on the various systems and programs used in support of the MTMC mission is also provided to help attendees perform their jobs better."

DSC will build on the success May 21-23 at the Western Freight Training Workshop held at the Town and Country Convention Center in San Diego, Calif.
Anyone interested in the upcoming workshop may contact Jack McAveney, DSN 927-7478 or commercial 757-878-7478, mcaveneyj@mtmc.army.mil. (FROM MILITARY TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT COMMAND, DEPLOYMENT SUPPORT COMMAND PUBLIC AFFAIRS).
