305th AMW receives Air Force ground safety award
McGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. (USTCNS) --- The 305th Air Mobility Wing ground safety division recently received an Air Force award for contributions to the Air Force ground safety program.
The five-person team, responsible for planning and directing a comprehensive 24-hour safety program for the base, netted the Air Force Chief of Safety Outstanding Achievement for Ground Safety award for a large wing. The award covered Oct. 1, 1999 to Sept. 30, 2000.
The division is responsible for everything from mishap investigations and reports to preventive education and training. The staff maintains several safety programs for mishap prevention such as hazard abatement, 101 Critical Days of Summer campaign and an motorcycle safety program which earned an award in 1999 from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
Other notable efforts by wing safety include forming the Regulatory Compliance Group by merging environmental and bio-environmental agencies with the fire department, providing unit safety representatives with hands-on training, and coordinating for an OSHA class on base.
Ground safety also oversees the development of a confined-space program by evaluating 100 percent of McGuire's confined spaces to ensure compliance.
McGuire's ground safety workforce led the way in getting fall protection modification for K-loaders, a plan now being implemented throughout the Air Force. (FROM AIR MOBILITY COMMAND PUBLIC AFFAIRS).
