SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- Army Brig. Gen. Carlos D. "Butch" Pair, U.S. Transportation Command chief of staff, was promoted to major general in a ceremony here today.
Pair, a reserve officer from Birmingham, Ala., is serving a two-year active duty assignment at USTRANSCOM, a "Chairman's Ten position."
Air Force Gen. Charles T. "Tony" Robertson, USTRANSCOM commander in chief and commander Air Mobility Command, presided at the ceremony, held in Scott Air Force Base's Scott Club.
Pair assumed his current position in June 2000 following duty as the deputy commander for mobilization at Military Traffic Management Command.
He has held a variety of active duty and reserve positions including chief of staff, 377th Theater Army Area Command, commander, 3d Theater Movement Control Agency (Anniston, Ala.), commander 696th Maintenance Battalion, and commander 530th Maintenance Company.
Pair's awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (with silver oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with oak leaf cluster), and the Army Achievement Medal.
He is a graduate of the Quartermaster Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.
Pair holds a bachelor's degree from Jacksonville State University (Ala.).
USTRANSCOM is one of nine unified commands and is based at Scott Air Force Base. It's components include Air Mobility Command, Military Sealift Command, and Military Traffic Management Command. The command is staffed by Air Force, Navy, Army, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard military personnel and Department of Defense civilians.
