22nd Mission Support Squadron airman named best personnel manager in Air Force

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. (USTCNS) --- How do you become the best personnel manager in the Air Force? Ask Airman 1st Class Brion Doyle, 22nd Mission Support Squadron promotions and reenlistments representative who won the outstanding USAF personnel manager of 2000.

"I'm in total shock," said Doyle.

Although Doyle may be surprised by the recognition, his coworkers are not.

"I had no doubt that Brion had the capability, experience, and professionalism to put him over the top," said Lt. Col. Barry Beard, 22nd MSS commander. "He's a very sharp troop. His appearance goes above and beyond and probably the best I've seen of any airman on this base."

After winning two quarterly awards last year for the squadron, being the annual airman of the year winner for the wing, and the AMC personnel manager of the year, Beard said that what qualifies Doyle as the best personnel manager is his enthusiasm and energetic approach.

For example, Doyle came in one day wearing service dress for no reason.

"I thought he got in trouble," said 1st Lt. Halima Muhammad, OIC of 22nd MSS orderly room. "Or, there was some event he's going to proctor. But when we asked him why he was in service dress, he just said he was trying to set an example."

"When I first entered the military, lets just say I needed to adjust," explained Doyle. "My mentality wasn't focused on what I needed to do for this business.

"Then I had a conversation with my first sergeant," said Doyle. "He told me to set the example and to start by ironing my uniform. So I did and I started to like it. I came to work looking good and it gave me a positive attitude.

"From there I was determined be successful, not only in this business but in my career field as well," said Doyle. "Now, I come to work everyday with a positive attitude. I want to make sure that all of my customers leave my office totally satisfied." (FROM AIR MOBILITY COMMAND PUBLIC AFFAIRS).
