SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- The U.S. Coast Guard celebrates its 211th anniversary on August 4th. Since its proud beginnings as the Revenue Marine in 1790, our great Coast Guard has served its country with patriotism and valor…in time of peace, and in time of war.
Today's Coast Guard protects thousands of miles of shoreline, provides critical law enforcement capabilities, and guarantees our nation free lines of trade. Of great importance to those of us in the Department of Defense is the Coast Guard's ability to shift rapidly from its peacetime role to that of powerful partner in wartime operations. Truly, our Coast Guard provides a critical component to the security of our nation across the spectrum of conflict.
We have learned well, over the years of TRANSCOM's existence, that it takes a strong and tightly woven team of professionals to accomplish the USTRANSCOM mission. In that regard, we at U.S. Transportation Command are extremely proud of the achievements of our very own Coast Guard contingent. USTRANSCOM's Coast Guard men and women truly personify the Coast Guard motto, Semper Paratus-Always Ready…and we are extremely grateful that they are on our team!
