Former USTRANSCOM CINC Johnson sworn in as assistant secretary of the Navy
Johnson, a retired U.S. Air Force general, served as U.S. Transportation Command commander-in-chief from 1989-1992.
In this capacity Johnson is responsible for the formulation of policies relating to environmental protection, facilities, installations, housing, long-range basing and infrastructure requirements, and safety and occupational health for military and civilian personnel.
Before his appointment, Johnson was president and chief executive operating officer of EG&G Technical Services, Inc.
He was a member of the 1993 Base Realignment and Closure Commission, and has worked for USAA Capital Corp. and the Credit Union National Association.
Johnson is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, and holds a master's degree in aeronautics from Stanford University and a master's of business administration from the University of Colorado. (FROM A DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE NEWS RELEASE)
