USTRANSCOM officer to command Travis wing

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (USTCNS) --- The Air Force announced that Brig. Gen. (select) David R. Lefforge will succeed Brig. Gen. Thomas P. Kane as commander of the 60th Air Mobility Wing, the largest active-duty wing in the Air Force's Air Mobility Command and host unit for the more than 40 organizations based at Travis.

The change of command is scheduled for Sept. 12.

Lefforge currently serves as the executive officer to Gen. Charles T. "Tony" Robertson, commander-in-chief of U.S. Transportation Command and commander of Air Mobility Command, both headquartered at Scott AFB, Ill.-a position he has held since June 1999.

This is Lefforge's first tour as a wing commander. His last command assignment was June 1998 to June 1999, when he was commander of the 19th Air Refueling Group, Robins AFB, Ga.

He has also served as commander of the 911th Air Refueling Squadron at Seymour-Johnson AFB, N.C., before moving on to become deputy commander of the 4th Operations Group there.

Lefforge is 48 years old and received his commission as an Air Force officer following graduation from ROTC in 1976. He is a command pilot with more than 3,600 flight hours, primarily in KC-135R, KC-10, FB-111 and T-38 aircraft. (FROM 60TH AMW PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE)
