USTRANSCOM's JTRU, Reserve Officer's Association to donate literary collection to base library
A ceremony presenting the collection is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the U.S. Transportation Command Transportation Plaza.
The VLC features historical literary works, and the presentation to the base library is designed to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Korean Conflict, often called the Forgotten War.
"The vision of the VLC is to establish and maintain a collection of factual military works honoring the memory of those countless men and women who have served with bravery and distinction." said Air Force Lt. Col. Steve Heuer, chief of staff of the Joint Transportation Reserve Unit. "Books should be based on military history, military unit history, biographies, specific campaigns, or similar works featuring any branch of the service."
Private citizens and corporate sponsors are invited to donate books they feel would be appropriate to the collection. To commemorate the Korean War in particular, the VLC requests donations of books specific to the time period from 1950 to 1960.
Monetary donations are also accepted, and for donations of more than $20, a book will be purchased in the donor's name and dedicated to a specific veteran or military unit. Each book will be personalized with a bookplate on the inside of the front cover and a VLC logo on the spine of the book. The donor can specify the title of the book, but if the donor is undecided, the VLC librarian will suggest one from a select list.
"The VLC leadership hopes the concept will spread to other military installations worldwide, providing an informative and educational resource for men and women now serving the nation." Heuer said.

Donors not in the vicinity of Scott AFB can mail book donations to the Scott Base Library, 510 Ward Street, Bldg. 1940, Scott AFB, IL. 62225, and mail monetary donations to Capt. Christopher A. Weatherspoon, Treasurer, ROA Chapter 46 (re: VLC), 3 Stuart Place, Harrisburg, IL. 62946.
