News brief: $10,000 idea

CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (USTCNS) --- Senior Airman Michael Morris, 17th Airlift Squadron loadmaster, submitted suggestion to the IDEA Program to eliminate the logistic rail bridge assembly on the C-17 Globemaster III, and his idea earned him a check for $10,000.

The idea was accepted and will save the Air Force $68,048.50. Morris was presented a check from Col. Rusty Findley, 437th Airlift Wing commander, Aug. 13. Morris found two items on the C-17 aircraft that could be removed without mission impact.

"It took a while with many e-mails back and forth," said Morris. "I submitted an Air Force Form 1000 through the IDEA Web site. It was all done on the Web." Morris has been in the Air Force for only three years and plans to keep suggesting new ideas.
