Seven joint intelligence center reservists called to active duty

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- Seven Navy reservists with Joint Intelligence Center Transportation Unit 169 have been recalled to active duty for one year to support Joint Intelligence Center Infrastructure Division of U.S. Transportation Command.

During their one-year of active duty, the seven reservists will contribute more than 2,190 workdays to USTRANSCOM, whose mission is to provide global transportation for the Department of Defense.

Only days after the Sept. 11 attack, USTRANSCOM mobilized the first of more than 59 reservists to augment the active duty and civilian staff. Transportation liaison officers were dispatched to various worldwide commands to advise and interface with planners and tactical commanders on transportation issues. Security personnel, logisticians and intelligence specialists were among the first mobilized as well.

One of the recalled reservists was Navy Reserve Lt. Cmdr. Terri Schrader, who reported to duty at Scott Air Force Base less than two weeks after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist bombings.

The DeSoto, Ill. native has taught high school world history for more than 24 years.

"I worry about the students and wonder if they are OK and are learning what they need to," Schrader said.

One of the advantages of living nearby is that during off hours she can write lesson plans and coordinate with the substitute teacher her school hired. During workdays, she works with other teachers who are also in the intelligence community.

"I'm learning a lot," she said. "I couldn't ask for nicer individuals to work with. I feel like I'm doing my patriotic duty, and in my own small way I'm helping my country with the war on terrorism. I look forward to work each day and meeting the day's challenge."
