The gateway currently supports one mission per week, a domestic flight from Charleston to Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) Airport, with an average of 40 members per flight.
Officials estimate closing the gateway will save more than $2 million annually.
Termination of the gateway will leave two major East Coast gateway operations, one each in Baltimore and Atlanta. Passengers who previously used the Charleston Commercial Gateway will now use those locations for their travel.
Space-Available travel opportunities for eligible travelers will still be available through the Charleston Air Force Base Passenger Terminal.
