USTRANSCOM troops return from Operation Enduring Freedom
The team formed a Joint Patient Movement Requirements Center to ensure proper movement and monitoring of medical patients involved in the operation.
The team deployed Oct. 14, 2001.
Returning team members are:
· Air Force Reserve Lt. Col. James Patterson, director Joint Patient Movement Requirements Center
· Army Capt. Thomas Porter, patient movement operations officer
· Navy Lt. Gary Deen, patient movement clinical coordinator
· Air Force Reserve Master Sgt. Jeffery Stone, patient movement controller
· Army Spc. Erika Rough, patient movement controller
· Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Keith Muzzy, patient movement regulator
Patients who were moved included those wounded or injured in the theater of operations as well as those who became ill.
Patient clinical coordinators and regulators compiled information on patient condition in preparation for movement. They also checked the patient's condition prior to a scheduled flight, briefed the medical crew that transported the patient and ensured required equipment was available.
Operations officers and controllers worked with the USCENTCOM Aeromedical Evacuation Control Team to coordinate for the appropriate transportation asset to move patients. They reviewed the location of the patient and suitable airfield availability, determined flight is availability, and closely tracked the patients during movement.
At USTRANSCOM, the personnel work in the GPMRC. The GPMRC coordinates the global movement of patients under the direction of the USTRANSCOM Surgeon General.
The GPMRC operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with approximately 35 operations positions and 25 support/readiness personnel.
Greeting the team were family members and a welcoming committee from the Joint Transportation Reserve Unit led by its commander, Air National Guard Brig. Gen. Robert Meyer.
