Ann Arbor resident mobilized at U.S. Transportation Command

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- The U.S. Coast Guard Reserve mobilized reservist Cmdr. Lawrence A. Gass of Ann Arbor, Mich., to serve at U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) here.

Gass has temporarily set aside his commercial loan officer duties at Citizens Bank in Ypsilanti, Mich.

He is now working as a senior duty officer at USTRANSCOM at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

Gass drills with USTRANSCOM's Joint Transportation Reserve Unit here.

"I am glad to do my part in the war against terrorism," Gass said. "The experience has made me more appreciative of the good life I have had. I will never take things for granted again, especially not my family, job, or faith."

USTRANSCOM provides air, land, and sea transportation for the Department of Defense, both in time of peace and times of war. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard (active and reserve) and Department of Defense civilian personnel staff the command.

JTRU was the first Department of Defense-authorized "joint" reserve unit. It provides USTRANSCOM with 30% of its watch standing workforce.
