Butler temporarily set aside his civilian duties as director of St. Paul's 911 Emergency Center. He is now working as chief of staff for USTRANSCOM Crisis Action Team at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

"I've enjoyed a great experience in the active and reserve Coast Guard, and have always been 'Always Ready' to answer the call," Butler said, referring to the Coast Guard motto. "This is probably my last opportunity to serve in a military capacity, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else right now."
USTRANSCOM provides air, land, and sea transportation for the Department of Defense, both in time of peace and times of war. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard (active and reserve) and Department of Defense civilian personnel staff the command.
JTRU was the first Department of Defense-authorized "joint" reserve unit. It provides USTRANSCOM with 30% of its watch standing workforce.
