Grand Forks AFB environmental flight wins Air Force award
"This is the ultimate validation of our superb environmental programs effectively executed by Team Grand Forks airmen, workers and residents," said Wayne Koop, environmental flight chief. "It also validates each individual's dedication to protecting and preserving our environment. We are the Air Force's environmental showcase base!"
The flight is no stranger to awards. In 2000, they won a White House "Closing the Circle" Award for model facility, and in 1999 they won the Secretary of Defense Environmental Security Award for recycling. Additionally, from 1999 to 2001, the flight has won eight Air Mobility Command environmental quality awards.
"I am extremely proud of the 11 civilians and one noncommissioned officer who are shaping and polishing programs in the environmental management flight," Koop said. "But, I am just as proud of how Team Grand Forks provides light rays of environmental support which are focused through our environmental programs' magnifying glass to a pinpoint, which has set our programs ablaze with activity and key Air Force award-winning results."
Overall, the flight was rated on environmental quality, installation restoration, planning, and their environmental compliance and management program. Koop said keeping up with everything can be busy, but they do everything they can to stay a top-notch flight.
