Rear Admiral Fahy, plans and policy director, retires

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- Rear Adm. Edward Fahy retired April 16 with more than 32 years of service. Gen. John Handy, commander in chief, USTRANSCOM, officiated at the ceremony.

Fahy has been director of plans and policy since April 1999. He was also the Navy Element commander for USTRANSCOM.

Prior to reporting to USTRANSCOM, Fahy was the executive assistant to the Chief of Naval Personnel. Before that he was the Commanding Officer, USS John F. Kennedy. During his command, the ship made a highly successful deployment to the Mediterranean and the Arabian Gulf. This tour was preceded by tours as head, in-service aircraft carrier programs on the staff of the chief of Naval operations, Washington, D.C.; duty as commanding officer, USS Kalamazoo providing logistical support for USS John F. Kennedy Battle Group and USS George Washington Battle Group; duty as deputy commander, Carrier Air Wing 6 flying F/A-18's during Operation Provide Comfort; and as commanding officer, Attack Squadron 46 (VA 46) flying the A-7E.

Fahy is the recipient of the Legion of Merit with three Gold Stars, Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star, Air Medal with Bronze Star, and the Navy Commendation Medal with two Gold Stars.

Rear Adm. Christopher (Chris) Ames arrived April 15 to replace Fahy. Ames was assigned as commander, Amphibious Squadron Three, San Diego, Calif.
