National Defense Transportation Day

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- On Friday, May 17, 2002, the defense transportation community will celebrate National Defense Transportation Day. First proclaimed by the President on May 16, 1957, this day recognizes the tremendous contributions members of the transportation community make to our national security. Without the ability to rapidly and effectively move troops and equipment, all the efforts that have gone into building the best and strongest military in the world would be for nothing.

Operation ENDURING FREEDOM is once again demonstrating America's ability to act decisively on a global scale. Each plane, ship, truck, or train that moves in support of this war on terrorism is a testament to the determination and innovation of the transporters---military, civilian, air sea, and ground, along with our commercial partners---who run the Defense Transportation System on a daily basis.

This day belongs to you, the men and women who make things move. I cannot overstate how proud I am of what you have done, what you are doing, and what you have the potential to do in the future. Thank you!
