Army element gets new insignia
To enhance morale and distinction within the command, members of the U.S. Army Element of United States Transportation Command will be putting on a new shoulder sleeve insignia which will replace the Joint Staff patch currently worn by Army personnel of the command.
Both color and subdued patches will be distributed beginning June 6, along with the new unit crest.
As with any other insignia in the military, the new USTRANSCOM Army Element insignia has its symbolism.
The brick red and golden yellow are the colors traditionally used by transportation units. The sun and demi-globe allude to Illinois, the Prairie State, and the location of the organization.
It also highlights the command's worldwide mission to provide air, land and sea transportation to the Department of Defense.
The spear represents the military readiness and the command's leadership endeavor in wartime conflict and peacetime operations. The winged seahorse is adapted from USTRANSCOM's emblem.
There are 170 active and reserve Army personnel in USTRANSCOM.
