SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, IL. (USTRANSCOM)---The Pamela O. Williams Conference room -- named in honor of the late Depeuty Director of Manpower , Personnel and Quality at U.S. Transportation Command-was dedicated today in ceremonies at the base.

"Organizations do not treat lightly a decision to dedicate a facility to a specific individual," Frank Weber, US TRANSCOM Deputy for Logisitics and Business Operations, told a crowd of 100 who attended the dedication. "The contributions of that individual to the organization must be so noteworthy as to warrant remembrance and emulation by future generations. Pam is joining some elite company."

Williams joins six others who have been so honored at the command. She is the only civilian and the only woman to be so honored.

Weber told the audience-which included Williams' mother, Mrs. Mary Williams and a nephew, David Williams-that Pam Williams was already a legend in Air Force personnel circles when she arrived at the command in 1993.

"There wasn't anyone in Washington, D.C. who did not know about Pam Williams, "Weber said.

Williams died in 2000. She had served as Deputy Director since 1997 and also served as acting director at various times. She received numerous awards, including the Joint Chiefs of Staff Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 1999.

The memorial room is in building 1911, room 318. Memorial plaques to Williams line the walls. It will be used primarily as a training room for US TRANSCOM personnel.

"This ceremony is, candidly, a small effort by us to hold onto a part of Pam," Weber added. "The spirit, the joy that she brought to so many of us on a personal level. It is hard to let that spirit go and, in some small way, this room will ensure that it is always around."

Ribbon cutting to open and dedicate the room was shared by her mother and Navy Capt. Mary Orban, current Director of Manpower and Personnel.
