Young to be promoted to civilian rank equivalent of flag officer

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, IL (USTCNS) --- Ms. Patricia M. Young has been selected as the new deputy director for Logistic and Business Operations, United States Transportation Command here.

The announcement was made Aug. 8, by Air Force Gen. John W. Handy, commander in chief, USTRANSCOM. Along with the new position comes a promotion to Senior Executive Schedule-1 (SES-1), a civilian grade equivalent of a general officer.

Young has served as the division chief of the Business and Acquisition Center at USTRANSCOM since last October as a General Schedule, or GS-15, grade civilian employee.

After cutting the first piece of cake at her surprise ceremony, Young thanked her co-workers for her success. “I’ve been very fortunate to work with the people that I have,” she said.

Prior to coming to USTRANSCOM in August 1993, she held several positions with Air Force Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton.

She was USTRANSCOM’s Civilian of the Year for 1999, and was awarded the Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 2001.

As the single manager of America’s Defense Transportation System, USTRANSCOM coordinates the aircraft, ships, trains, and trucks that allow America to project power and sustain forces worldwide, for as long as they are needed.
