Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of Political-Military Affairs visits U.S. Transportation Command
The purpose of this visit was to further develop the ties between the Department of State and USTRANSCOM.
In July, Gen. John W. Handy, commander in chief, USTRANSCOM visited Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Armitage, in Washington D.C.
“The global mission of USTRANSCOM demands a close relationship between our two organizations,” said Stephen P. Dawkins the State Department’s political advisor to USTRANSCOM. “I’m the day-to-day link, but the more the leaders from both entities know of each other the more efficient we will be in conducting our missions –towards common ends.”
Bloomfield was accompanied by Col. Chuck Wilson, director, Office of International Security Operations; Sheri Kraham, special assistant to the Under Secretary of State for International Security; Debra Cagan, director, European Policy and Regional Affairs; Lt. Col. Robert Wilkerson, political-military advisor, Bureau of South Asian Affairs; and Debra Jones, director, Arabian Peninsula Affairs during the visit.
The international scope of USTRANSCOM’s operations impressed the visitors as did the advanced information technology they witnessed here.
Bloomfield said, “our visit was a great opportunity to learn about USTRANSCOM and to look at areas where we can work together in the future.”
As the single manager of America’s Defense Transportation System, USTRANSCOM coordinates the aircraft, ships, trains and trucks that allow America to project power and sustain forces worldwide, for as long as they are needed.
