A contract award was announced Sept. 26 for USTRANSCOM's GTN21 program. The Department of Defense announced the following:

"Northrop Grumman Information Technology, Reston, Va., is being awarded a $63,806,906 cost-plus award-fee contract modification to provide for the Global Transportation Network (GTN) for the 21st Century, GTN 21st, is being developed by the U.S. Transportation Command (UNSTRANSCOM) to support its global mission. USTRANSCOM provides global air, land, and sea transportation for the Department of Defense, both in time of peace and in time of war through its Transportation Component Commands: Air Mobility Command, Military Traffic Management Command, and Military Sealift Command. GTN 21 will integrate transportation information that supports the USTRANSCOM Commander's Command and Control mission requirement for planning, directing, and controlling operations of assigned forces pursuant to global transportation management. GTN 21 will provide aggregated information so that the Secretary of Defense, Combat Commanders, USTRANSCOM (to include its component commands), and other transportation information customers can plan, have visibility of, make decisions on, and execute the transportation mission. GTN 21 is being developed to allow USTRANSCOM to act in its capacity of single manager for global common user air, land, and transportation. This contract action will exercise the existing contract option for an Initial Operational Capability of the GTN 21 System. This option exercise is based upon a down select process which has been ongoing since award of 4 GTN 21 contracts on 28 March 2002, for a risk mitigation effort (Phase I). Competition for the down select was limited to the four Phase 1, efforts via a J & A approved by the Deputy AFPEO and C2 & CS on Feb. 1 2002. The performance is Northrop Grumman Information Technology, Inc., Scott Air Base Ill. Location of performance is Northrop Grumman Information Technology, Air Force Base, Ill. At this time, $4,826,298 of the funds has been obligated. Further funds will be obligated as individual delivery orders are issued. This work will be completed by May 2005. The Headquarters Electronic Systems Center, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., is the contracting activity (F19628-02-0034/P00003)."
