USTRANSCOM awarded Joint Meritorious Unit Award
SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force Gen. Richard Myers, has awarded the Joint Meritorious Unit Award to Headquarters United States Transportation Command for exceptionally meritorious achievement. USTRANSCOM subordinate joint units receiving the JMUA include the Joint Transportation Reserve Unit, the Global Patient Movement Requirements Center, and the Joint Intelligence Center.
According to the citation accompanying the award, USTRANSCOM “distinguished itself by exceptionally meritorious achievement from Sept. 11, 2001 to July 31, 2002 while simultaneously supporting the United States of America’s war on terrorism along with its daily Defense Transportation System requirements.
“The Command’s airlift, sealift, surface lift and afloat pre-positioning were absolutely essential to the prosecution of Operation Enduring Freedom throughout the period, permitting the deployment, engagement, and sustainment of a diverse force operating in adverse conditions throughout Afghanistan and the surrounding region as well as in the Pacific,” the citation continued.
USTRANSCOM’s mission is to provide air, land and sea transportation for the Department of Defense, both in time of peace and time of war.
