(USTCNS) --- The members of the U.S. Merchant Marine are asked to honor the memory of those Americans who died for their country while in the Armed Forces.

There will be a Moment of Remembrance this Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2003 at 1500 local time. A three stroke ringing of the ship’s bell followed by a minute of silence and a final three stoke ringing of the ship’s bell would be an appropriate shipboard observance of the Moment of Remembrance.

The purpose of this Memorial Day event is to remind all Americans of the importance of remembering those who sacrificed for our freedoms, and to provide an opportunity for Americans to join in an act of unity this Memorial Day.

I offer my thanks to the loyal service and dedication of the men and women of the American Merchant Marine this Memorial Day.
