United States Transportation Command

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- The Army Reserve Element of U. S. Transportation Command's Joint Transportation Reserve Unit has a new commander, Col. David C. Goetsch.

In a ceremony here on April 3, attended by his wife, Sharon, their sons, Conrad and David, and his mother, Marilyn von Kuhlberg, Goetsch relieved Col. Corinne E. Bardgett as commander of the Army Reserve personnel assigned to the JTRU, the first Department of Defense-authorized "joint" reserve unit.

Presiding over the ceremony was Maj. Gen. James P. Czekanski, Air Force Reserve, JTRU commander. Also in attendance were Army Maj. Gen. Bill Wells, Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics for the Department of the Army; Maj. Gen. Robert Carrothers, Assistant Military Deputy to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition Logistic and Technology; and Army Reserve Brig. Gen. James Bauerle (Ret.), former commander of the 88th Regional Readiness Group.

Another guest was Maj. Gen. George W.S. Read, Commander, U.S. Army Reserve Readiness Command, who spoke at the ceremony and presented Bardgett with the Meritorious Service Medal for her years of service to USTRANSCOM and the JTRU. Read was accompanied by Command Sgt. Maj. Posey Grier, Command Sergeant Major of the Army Reserve Readiness Command.

Goetsch comes to USTRANSCOM from an active duty tour where he was Executive Officer for the NATO Stabilization Force in Sarajevo, Bosnia. He is a 1979 ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate of Claremont Men's College, Calif. His military career includes service as Commander, 212th Quartermaster Battalion, and Assistant Chief Of Staff, 21st Theater Support Command (CONUS).

Goetsch currently lives in Columbus, Ind., where he is Director of Worldwide Customer Satisfaction for a manufacturer of power generation equipment and technology. His wife, a Lt. Col. in the Army Reserves, is currently mobilized and serving as Assistant G3, 21st Theater Support Command in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Bardgett, a Validation Engineer with a biotech corporation in St. Louis, Mo., was joined by her husband, Timothy R. Bardgett, her son, Robert, her parents, Richard and Marie Kreiner, and her mother-in-law, Mary Bardgett. She is currently on an active duty tour as Joint Mobility Officer in USTRANSCOM's Operations Directorate. In July she will become Operations Officer for the newly established Multi-functional Support Command in Rock Island, Ill.

USTRANSCOM provides air, land, and sea transportation for the Department of Defense, both in time of peace and time of war. The JTRU provides USTRANSCOM with the highly skilled personnel it needs from the reserve components of all the services.
