MSC commander, Korean general build military partnership
During the visit, Vice. Adm. Brewer and Maj. Gen. Chung discussed sea transportation issues that affect MSC and the allied forces of the Republic of Korea and U.S. Combined Forces Command who are responsible for defending South Korea should it ever come under attack. As the command that delivers the majority of war fighting cargo used by U.S. military forces during major conflicts, MSC would be integral to equipping and re-supplying U.S. and ROK forces in the event of a conflict on the southern Korean peninsula.
"As nations allied in the joint defense of the Republic of Korea and the democracy within her borders, it's vital that U.S. and Republic of Korea forces continue to build on already strong relationships," said Vice Adm. Brewer after his meeting with the general.
"MSC is ready to support the Combined Forces Command in their defense of freedom in the region should our services ever be needed."
MSC operates more than 110 noncombatant, civilian-crewed ships that not only move combat cargo for U.S. forces, but also replenish U.S. Navy ships at sea, chart ocean bottoms, conduct undersea surveillance and strategically preposition equipment and supplies at sea around the world.
