USTRANSCOM welcomes new Senior Enlisted Advisor

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) –-- Chief Master Sgt. Kenneth J. McQuiston has landed at United States Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill., as the command’s Senior Enlisted Advisor.

The latest move in his 23-year Air Force career was from just across the street at the 18th Air Force where he was the Command Chief Master Sergeant.

His new duties include advising USTRANSCOM Commander Gen. Norton Schwartz on issues regarding the command’s enlisted force. These include health and welfare, career progression and education and training. “I also serve as the link between the commander, senior staff and the enlisted force,” McQuiston said, “to insure that we are knowledgeable of the commander’s vision and direction of USTRANSCOM.”

McQuiston credits his past supervisors and commanders with providing guidance to excel in his career.

“I have been blessed to have had the opportunity to serve my country at various levels to include the squadron, group, wing, numbered Air Force and major command levels prior to coming to USTRANSCOM,” McQuiston said. “I have served primarily in the personnel field my entire career.”

When asked what he felt was the most important aspect of his new position, he said, “Taking care of people. If I ensure that we take care of the places that we eat, sleep, play and pray, our people, regardless of component, grade or position, will be better prepared to accomplish our mission and win the global war on terrorism.”

McQuiston says he sees little difference between members of the various service branches. “One thing I have learned in my 23 years of service is that people are people, regardless of their service affiliation,” he said. “People want to do a good job, be recognized for their performance and be able to provide for their families.”

McQuiston says his biggest challenge will be to learn the individual career progression, promotion and professional military education systems of the various services so he can advise and provide career progression opportunities for them all.

"I plan to do this by establishing more open communications," McQuiston said, "to find greater opportunities for our various service members to interact and share service-unique rules of engagement and to educate everyone. I will count on the senior enlisted service members from each component to help provide me with that education."

McQuiston feels he is prepared for the challenges of his new job and welcomes the opportunity to serve in a unique and diverse situation.

"My family (wife Mary, children Rocco, Kyle, Scott and Megan) and I are privileged and honored to have the opportunity to serve the proud professionals of USTRANSCOM,” McQuiston said. “As we continue to fight the global war on terrorism, under the leadership of General Schwartz, we will win this war, and we will do it because of our professionalism.

“I commit to you,” McQuiston continued, “that I will do everything in my power to ensure that you have the tools necessary to progress professionally and personally.”
