SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. - Lt. Ann M. Brown will receive the Navy League of the United States, St. Louis Council's annual Award of Excellence. The award is presented to junior naval service personnel who possess characteristics such as leadership, community involvement and superior job performance.
Brown is a member of the United States Transportation Command and according to Cmdr. Derek Wessman, USTRANSCOM Reserve Affairs, was selected for her performance while assigned to the command's Reserve Affairs directorate.
"She is one of the easiest and most responsive people I have ever worked with," Wessman said. "She has an excellent rapport with all of the members of our office. She is dedicated to our mission, but most importantly, to our people, and selflessly donates her time and talent in multiple ways."
According to Wessman, Brown is actively involved with her community and participates in fundraising for events such as the American Diabetes Association's 100-mile Tour de Cure; the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's "MS 150" ride; and "Marty's for Marty" supporting the America Stroke Foundation and the Disabled American Veterans on behalf of stroke victim Master Sgt .(Ret) Edward Martin.
"Lt. Brown was heavily involved in USTRANSCOM and Navy events throughout the year such as the annual Navy Family Day picnic and Navy Birthday Celebration, for which she received two Letters of Appreciation from Maj. Gen. Harold Mitchell (director, Reserve Component directorate) ," Wessman said. "Because of her dedication, Lt. Brown is routinely sought after as an active participant in promotion and retirement ceremonies."
Brown was nominated for the award by Wessman. "As the Navy Operational Support Officer, she revitalized a role that had been dormant for over six months, and was previously held by a senior Navy Captain," Wessman said. "In this role, she significantly improved USTRANSCOM's working relationship with Commander Naval Reserve Forces Command, and expertly managed the financial planning, execution and manpower allocation of all Navy Reserve Support."
"Her efforts resulted in an increase from 13 to 28 Navy personnel supporting USTRANSCOM on long term orders," Wessman continued. "As the sole full time representative of the Reserve Sea Services, Lt. Brown took it upon herself to become a subject matter expert on Marine and Coast Guard Reserve programs."
Brown will be recognized by the Navy League during their January meeting and will be presented the award at a later date.
