USTRANSCOM holds Distribution Process Owner Enterprise Architecture Summit

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. - The United States Transportation Command held its third annual Distribution Process Owner Enterprise Architecture Summit Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 in Fairview Heights, Ill.

"The Summit theme was 'Delivering the Corporate Services Vision," said Robert Osborn, USTRANSCOM deputy director for C4 systems and distribution portfolio manager. "Over the last two years, USTRANSCOM has been transitioning from a systems-centric architecture to one that focuses on business process work flows through an enterprise-designed service-oriented architecture. The Corporate Services Vision is USTRANSCOM's approach to drive out redundancy, integrate processes and unify the way information is viewed."

"The 2010 DPO Enterprise Architecture Summit was a huge success," said William Howard who was in charge of strategic communications for the event. "Over 300 people from various staff agencies and communities of interest attended this year, nearly doubling the attendance from last year."

According to Osborn, the summit covered the architectural way ahead for the DPO, CSV, and the Joint Deployment and Distribution Architecture-Extended. It also offered an opportunity for DPO partners, transportation component commands, military departments, and other government agencies to exchange information and share what they are currently doing in regard to achieving net-centric solutions.

This year's agenda included several keynote speakers and four tracks addressing: Business and Information, Architecture and Engineering, Technology, and Portfolio and Program Managers. Additionally, there was a Chief Architect / Chief Technology Officer Forum, which addressed DPO-wide service-oriented architecture and cloud-computing topics.

"In addition to the stimulating speakers and various focused track sessions," said Howard, "there were hands-on demonstrations with iDistribute.mil, Integrated Date Environment (IDE)/Global Transportation Network, Convergence, Information Tool Suite, Joint Deployment and Distribution Architecture - Enhanced Tool Suite, and the JDDA-E Process Modeling Tool Suite.

"Planning for next year's event has already begun, Howard continued, "and we are looking forward to expanding the size and depth of the event."
