TransViz web-enabled software allows better planning efficiency

Planners who coordinate the movement of passengers and cargo in support of the warfighter can now access the Transportation Visualizer analysis tool via the web (on the classified network), a step toward more agile transportation support.

Planners who coordinate the movement of passengers and cargo in support of the warfighter can now access the Transportation Visualizer analysis tool via the web (on the classified network), a step toward more agile transportation support.

TransViz is a planning tool that allows for collaboration, manipulation and what-if analysis. It provides full access to real-time Joint Operations Planning and Execution System data. In other words, TransViz allows planners to see, prioritize and smooth flow competing movement requirements for each Combatant Command’s inputs to JOPES, the system of record for strategic movement requirements.

With the deployment of TransViz 2.3.1, users no longer have to install TransViz software on their classified computers or route the software through individual command approval processes in order to access its capabilities. Web-enablement allows planners flexibility and the ability to support dynamic situations as they travel to various locations, including Deployment and Distribution Operation Centers known as DDOCs. It also reduces man hours required to approve, install and support the software.

The U.S. Central Command DDOC at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, is just one location at which users can now access this planning software. The ability to immediately access TransViz on a given computer has aided productivity, according to Army Master Sgt. Heather Dempsey, Strategic Deployments Division, U.S. Central Command. “It’s outstanding. We couldn’t work without it.”

For calendar year 2011, TransViz recommendations resulted in a cost avoidance of more than $15 million for the CENTCOM area of responsibility, as reported by USTRANSCOM J3, Operations and Plans. The government realizes cost avoidances when owning combatant commands accept recommendations made via TransViz to move cargo or passengers via strategic lift versus channel options.
