SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. – Last month, the Department of Defense Office of Small Business Programs presented U.S. Transportation Command with the 2012 Director's Award at an awards ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in conjunction with the DoD Small Business Training conference.
The Director's award is presented to defense agencies that rate in the top third among their peers in achieving their annual small business contracting goal. USTRANSCOM exceeded the DoD/OSBP assigned Small Business goal of 5.18 percent, achieving 6.2 percent.
“As DoD leadership often notes, small businesses are critical to our nation’s economic and military strength,” said Nick Weiss, director, USTRANSCOM Office of Small Business Programs. “Not only do they produce jobs, they provide innovative solutions for the warfighter.”
Continues Weiss, “This award is a first for USTRANSCOM and recognizes the command’s persistence, determination, vision, leadership and commitment to promote small business participation and opportunity in all our TCAQ acquisitions.”
