USTRANSCOM holds second ‘emPower Hour’ PT event

Approximately 40 U.S. Transportation Command military members took part in the second “emPower Hour” PT event, The Power Ring, Aug. 7, on the Scott Air Force Base parade field.

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. – Approximately 40 U.S. Transportation Command military members took part in the second “emPower Hour” PT event, The Power Ring, Aug. 7, on the Scott Air Force Base parade field.

The event was led by Army Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Weston and Senior Master Sgt. Gregory Krems as part of the command’s focus on empowerment, and looked to junior NCOs to develop the exercise routines.

“We are going to conduct a total body workout by breaking down muscle groups into stations,” Weston said.

The participants were allowed to choose each station based on the muscle group they wished to work out and could choose the same station multiple times or each station only once.  Modifications were available at each station based on individual fitness level.

According to Weston, the goal of “The Power Ring” is to promote physical endurance, tone and power, which coincides with the command’s overall empowerment program.

"Endurance in the command translates to the persistence to drive home methods to improve your quality of work,” Weston said. “Tone in the command translates to the strength required of our members to continue the rigorous daily maintenance of processes to minimize problems and manage stress.

“And power in the command,” Weston continued, “translates to the innovation to direct and drive our force into the future.”

Each quarter, a senior leader leads activities — including a professional reading club, keynote speakers and more — focused on a virtue aimed at bolstering a culture of customer service and collaboration within the organization.

Future “emPowerment” events include the USTRANSCOM picnic Aug. 30, a distinguished speaker, Bob Chapman, Sept. 5, and a critical thinking course Sept. 25.
