Test Your Emotions
SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- What is your emotional reaction to stressful or friendly situations?
Your reaction to situations is determined by your Emotional Intelligence; which is known as your Emotional Quotient or “EQ.”
EQ is all about the brain; it’s ability to take electrical pulses that are stimulus and process them into reactions. The path these signals take pass through the brain to the frontal lobe where rational decisions are made. The first place the pulses transit through is the emotional part of the brain, hence most people react with emotions first.
“Simply put, it's recognizing your emotions, using techniques to manage those emotions, being aware of how you show-up in a social setting and managing relationships to a positive outcome,” said Command Chief Master Sgt. Marty Klukas, U.S. Transportation Command Senior Enlisted Leader and EQ Instructor.
During a recent emotional intelligence finding; 80 percent of the people with average intelligence outperformed people with higher IQs due in-part to utilizing emotional intelligence techniques.
According to Klukas, “I contend that everyone could use this across the spectrum of relationships from home, through our work centers and everywhere in between!”
EQ is broken down into four separate sub-components which are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management.
USTRANSCOM is starting the first round of the five-part EQ training series with EQ101, 13 Feb at 2 p.m, in the Seay Auditorium.
“After attending the course, I realized how much I was unaware of the power of the various emotions and the effect it had on me,” reported Klukas.
