SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill.--The teammate spotlight member works during the day in USTRANSCOM J5-Strategy, Policy, and Logistics, spends weeknights leading the local American Legion, weekends leading soldiers as a member of the Army National Guard, and still has free time to stay active riding bikes and playing with her dog in the park.

Ms. Erin Slawinski, J5 Global Distribution Plans, was instrumental in the development of the Global Campaign Plan-Distribution recently approved by the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy.  GCP-D 9033 is one of the command’s top priorities in line with the Command Strategy “Our Story, 2013-2107.”

“In our division we work as a team to execute GCP-D 9033,” she said “This involves leading issue identification working groups, managing Line of Effort working groups and collaborating throughout the command and Distribution Community of Interest to consolidate a list of distribution issues and executing issue resolution plans.”

While Slawinski spends her days at USTRANSCOM, Capt. Slawinski spends her weekends as the Assistant S-3/Plans officer in the 1140th Engineer Battalion stationed in Cape Girardeau, Mo.  Her U.S. Army career began in 1997, when she enlisted Active duty, then attend U.S. Army ROTC at the University of Michigan, where she was commissioned as an ordnance officer, then eventually found her niche as a logistics officer.

Commander Slawinski leads the Barlog-Kuszaj-Zero (BKZ) Memorial Post 422 American Legion located in St. Louis, Mo.   She joined the legion in 2001 behind the encouragement of her father; who served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam, eventually joining and retiring from the Michigan Army National Guard.

“I encourage all active, reserve, separated, retired military to check out the American Legion, if you are not already a member,” she continued “more specifically Post 422 in Soulard.”

She was elected to her current position and was the first female commander of the historic post.

“Our Auxiliary is very active and have sent 308 boxes to service members overseas,” said Slawinski, “we are also hosting two fish fry’s during lent, March 21 and April 18.”

While Slawinski wears many hats, she is very proud of her contribution to the TRANSCOM mission.  When asked what her favorite part was, she replied, “it’s the people I work with.”
