Azerbaijan Ambassador Visits USTRANSCOM

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. - Azerbaijan Ambassador Elin Suleymanov visited U.S. Transportation Command April 23-24 and met with Gen. William M. Fraser III, commander USTRANSCOM and Gen. Paul J. Selva, commander Air Mobility Command.

Ambassador Suleymanov toured the Scott Air Force Base command to get a better understanding of the unit's role and mission in global transportation and distribution.

"Ambassador Sulemanov visited USTRANSCOM to congratulate General Fraser on his retirement and to meet with the incoming USTRANSCOM Commander, General Selva.  The Ambassador thanked General Fraser for his friendship over the years and for TRANSCOM's excellent working relationship with Azerbaijan on retrograde operations," said Richard W. Nelson, USTRANSCOM Foreign Policy Advisor (POLAD).

"The Ambassador took the opportunity to brief Generals Fraser and Selva on Azerbaijan's key location as a transport and logistics center in an important region of the world.  He highlighted ongoing transportation infrastructure improvements in Baku, Azerbaijan's capital, and at the international trade seaport on the Caspian Sea," Nelson continued.  "He noted that not only is Azerbaijan an important partner in the Northern Distribution Network (NDN), but there are many opportunities for future military and commercial cooperation after the NATO drawdown in Afghanistan."
