SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (March 30, 2021) - U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Kelsey O’Sell, administration specialist, Intelligence Directorate, U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), received the Academic Achievement Award and the Commandant Award at the CMSAF Bud Andrews Airman Leadership School (ALS) here March 25.

ALS is the first level of the Enlisted Professional Military Education continuum and prepares senior airmen to be professional, war-fighting airmen and space professionals who can supervise and lead work teams to support the employment of air and space power.

“Winning one award is quite an honor… winning two is extraordinary,” said U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Jason France, senior enlisted leader, USTRANSCOM.

The Academic Achievement Award denotes excellence as a scholar, and is based upon all test scores and evaluations in the areas of speaking and written communications.

The Commandant Award is presented to the student who displayed excellence in leadership, military professionalism, and promoted teamwork throughout the course. The students and instructors collectively select candidates to meet a leadership award board. The board evaluates each nominee, and a final winner is selected with the approval of the commandant.

O’Sell’s achievements highlight a trend of high-performing airmen from USTRANSCOM. U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Jacob Montalbano, watch noncommissioned officer, Intelligence Directorate, USTRANSCOM, won the John L. Levitow Award in the previous ALS class.
