Defense Personal Property Program director shares customer focused perspective at NDTA GovTravels conference
SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (Feb. 26, 2021) – Rick Marsh, director of the Defense Personal Property Program at U.S. Transportation Command, participated in a panel discussion titled “COVID-19 Lessons Learned for Passenger Travel” during the National Defense Transportation Association’s 2021 virtual GovTravels conference on Feb. 23, 2021.
Panel members discussed the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on government programs.
Marsh explained how the pandemic reiterated the need for communication and transparency between government and industry as they worked together to meet DOD’s relocation requirements. Marsh also observed tighter integration between DOD’s logistics communities that operate the Personal Property Enterprise and the personnel communities setting the relocation demand signal.
Marsh said the pandemic refocused his office on the fact that “relocation is fundamentally about people, and not simply moving their belongings.” This fact, he said, requires DOD to ensure business rules ultimately translate into a respectful, professional experience for DOD personnel and their families at the curb. Marsh also reinforced the department’s commitment to reforming the relocation experience and delivering a safe, quality moving experience.
