Air Force Gen. Randall Reed traveled to Germany and Belgium Jan. 21-24, 2025, marking his first visit to the region as the commander of U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM).
“We have a global mission,” Reed said. “It is important for us to see the world through our Allies’, partners’ and customers’ eyes. We need to see how they view the world and know the challenges they face so we can provide them with the solutions they need.”
Reed began his trip at the U.S. European Command headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, where he met with command’s deputy. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Robert Fulford, and other USEUCOM senior leaders. They discussed the security challenges facing the region and USTRANSCOM's logistics mission in Europe, with a focus on mobility readiness.
While in Germany, Reed also met Marine Corps Gen. Michael Langley, the commander of U.S. Africa Command. Their conversation centered on logistics and mobility needs, regional security challenges, and the importance of agile logistics in maintaining operational reach and effectiveness.
Reed then traveled to Belgium, where he met Army Gen. Christopher G. Cavoli, the supreme allied commander for Europe and commander of U.S. European Command. They discussed strategic mobility and logistics coordination among USTRANSCOM, NATO, and U.S. European Command to aid defense and deterrence goals. They also addressed the need for resilient infrastructure and rapid force deployment in Europe.
Since its formation in 1987, USTRANSCOM has strengthened NATO's deterrence capabilities and deepened relationships with member states. The command has also assisted NATO in various exercises and operations, including delivering aid, moving patients globally, and conducting air refueling missions.
As NATO continues to adapt to evolving security challenges, Reed said USTRANSCOM “stands ready to work with the alliance’s 32 member countries and our regional combatant commanders to safeguard shared values and interests.”
