SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- Aviation comes alive June 3-4, when Scott Air Force Base opens the gates for "Scott Air Force Base Airshow 2000."

Various military and historical aircraft will take to the skies during the two-day event, and leading the way will be Viper West, Air Combat Command's elite F-16 demonstration team.

For a touch of nostalgia, the show will feature Tora, Tora, Tora, an aerial act depicting the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and a number of heritage and "dog-fighting" demonstrations to include the P-51 Mustang.

Aircraft won't be the only things taking to the skies June 3 and 4. Watch as parachutists jump skillfully toward the earth during the high-flying, free-falling demonstration of the United States Army Parachute Team, The Golden Knights. With over 450 championship titles to their credit, The Golden Knights are the most-winning parachute team in the world.

In addition to an aerial show, the event will feature numerous display aircraft including the F-117A Stealth Fighter, a KC-135 Stratotanker, a UH-1N helicopter, a Navy P-3 Orion, a Civil Air Patrol C-182 and much more.

Also, experience the thrill of watching Scott's own military working dogs up close and in action. See the dogs and their handlers work as one to catch would-be thieves and perpetrators.

The Scott Air Force Base Precision Drill Team will also be out, moving and working in unison as they perform meticulous rifle toss demonstrations.

Scott Air Force Base is located about 20 miles east of St. Louis near Belleville, Ill. The Shiloh Gate entrance is 1 1/2 miles southeast of Interstate 64 (exit 19A) at Route 158.

Make plans to attend and have an enjoyable and fun-filled look into today's Air Force, provided by the people of Scott Air Force Base.

Food, drinks and souvenirs will be sold both days. For safety reasons, coolers and glass bottles are prohibited.

The gates for this free two-day air show will open to the public at 8 a.m. and the aerial demonstrations start at 9:30 a.m. both days.

Shuttle bus service will be provided by the St. Clair County Transit Authority to and from the airshow beginning at 7:30 a.m. each day. The three pick-up sites will be MidAmerica Airport, the St. Clair Square Water Tower and the 5th and Missouri MetroLink station (the last station in Illinois). Cost for adults is $1.25 and cost for children ages five to 11 is $.60. For more information on this service call 618-628-8090.
